What is Dance Marathon?

The STRIVE Rocks Dance Marathon is the largest 14 hour dance off of its kind in Maine. The Dance Marathon (DM) is STRIVE's largest fundraiser. In 2007, the DM raised just about $30,000! All money raised goes to benefit STRIVE programs which serve 400 teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. Over 600 students begin raising money in the winter with their efforts culminating in March when they celebrate their hard work by dancing for 14 hours. In addition to the dancers, over 30 students/volunteers work all winter organizing events prior to and during the marathon and preparing for the 600+ dancers. Dancers raise a minimum amount of money in pledges to participate. All money raised from the Dance Marathon goes directly towards STRIVE programs, which provide social, recreational, employment training, and educational programs to over 400 young adults in Maine with disabilities.

When is Dance Marathon?

The 2008 STRIVE Rocks Dance Marathon will be held on March 1 & 2. This 14 hour dance will be held at the USM Sullivan Gym in Portland. The DM kicks off at 8:00pm on the 1st and will end at 10:00am, on the 2nd.

How Can I pariticpate in the DM?

Want to dance? You can dance individually or in teams of up to six. Each dancer must raise a minimum of money. This year for dancers who turn their packets in before February 15 will preregister for $65 those who wait to turn in their packets after February 15th will registar for $80. Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers! Pledge packets are available a few months before the Dance-a-thon! Participants must fill out three forms before dancing; Emergency Medical Form, Registration Form, and a Release Form. These forms are made available to all interested dancers a few months before the DM. All DM forms can be picked up at the STRIVE Center in South Portland, request one by email or can be printed off our website! Questions?
